I don't own a car; this means I walk a lot: to the grocery store, to the bus and then to work. And I walk the little munchkin dog I foster, Mr. Drew Teckle.
This 5 km, however, I will walking for two specific purposes: 1) In solidarity with the 68.5 million children, women and men that have been forced to flee their homes, for all of the extreme conditions and uncertainty they have had to face; 2) to help raise funds for an organization that I love, which I was a part of as a youth member and now as staff.
Development and Peace- Caritas Canada supports grassroots organizations that are working for democracy, peace and justice in their own countries so people don't have to flee their homes. We also do education and advocacy work in Canada to change unjust laws and policies that negatively impact people living in the global south, and support communities that are sharing the little they have with refugees. Everything helps!
