Fifth Sunday of Lent - Solidarity Sunday

To celebrate Solidarity Sunday, parishes across Canada will hold the yearly special collection for Development and Peace. If you cannot attend mass in person, we invite you to tune into our online mass, brought to you by Salt + Light Media!

The Most Rev. Guy Desrochers, Bishop of Pembroke and member of Development and Peace's national council, will preside over the hour-long bilingual mass. The mass will be preceded by a 30-minute presentation on Development and Peace's mission of international solidarity.

The 90 minute program will begin at 1pm EST and the mass will begin at 1:30pm EST.

Do not forget to donate online, by telephone at 1 888 234-8533 or by mailing a cheque to the address at the bottom of the page.

    A story from Canada

Simone Fournier has been involved with Development and Peace for 20 years and has served on the organization's national council since 2019.

“My engagement has always been rooted in my desire to combat and prevent poverty, especially poverty affecting children. One of my most cherished memories with the organization is the unique chance I had to take part in a solidarity visit to Togo and Benin in 2008. The people I met during this unforgettable trip inspired me immensely. Their warmth, pride and remarkable ability to make a great difference in their community touched me.”

10th anniversary of the beginning of the Syrian conflict

    A story from Syria

Today marks the ten-year anniversary of the conflict in Syria, to which Development and Peace responded from the outset. Our engagement in Syria continues to this day. For instance, we support Jesuit Refugee Service’s project to build and maintain neighborhood health clinics in Aleppo.

Testifying to the clinics’ impact, 34-year-old Adawiah says, “My 12-year-old daughter suffers from rheumatism. The last time I had the financial ability to take her to a doctor was three years ago. Launching the health clinics here in Al-Hellok was a great support for us in this area.”

More stories about Development and Peace's humanitarian response to the Syrian conflict will be shared on our website and social media platforms. Make sure to check them out!
