Come join a mass rally on May 14th calling for Canadian mining companies to be accountable for their actions overseas!
The rally will take place on Wednesday, May 14th at noon on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
Come be part of hundreds from across Canada who will be gathering on Parliament Hill to call for an ombudsman for the extractive sector so that communities negatively impacted by Canadian mining companies in the Global South can have a Voice for justice.
At the rally, Members of Parliament will be invited to receive cards signed by their constituents asking for an ombudsman. Since the launch of our campaign in September, over 80,000 people have expressed their support for this call and the rally will be a culminating moment to show that Canadians are concerned about the actions of our companies overseas.
As a member of the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability (CNCA), Development and Peace launched this campaign to join in their call for access to justice here in Canada for those living violations of their rights through the actions of Canadian companies in the extractive sector overseas. The CNCA’s Open for Justice campaign is currently being promoted across the country by several civil-society organizations and many will be present at the rally to present MPs with signatures of support they have collected nationwide.
MPs from all parties have also been invited to address Canadians at the rally on this issue.
Come join us in Ottawa on May 14th to have your voice heard, or be there virtually by following us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram #ombudsman!
