Tomorrow, our annual Share Lent campaign gets started! This year we are launching the campaign in the Diocese of Hamilton with a special event featuring Bishop Douglas Crosby and Father Hagos Hayish, the Secretary General of the Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat (Caritas Ethiopia). One of the reasons that we chose to have the launch in Hamilton is to thank the clergy, parishioners and all those in the diocese who, through their generosity and commitment, help to make the Share Lent campaign such a success. Each year, the diocese consistently raises the most per parish for the Share Lent campaign, and we are grateful for their solidarity. This in no way diminishes the extraordinary work of all the other dioceses across the country. Rather, it is a celebration of our collective action in making a difference in the world. From one parishioner, to 67 dioceses, to over 4,000 parishes across Canada, together, we are raising funds to support those in the world who are still suffering from poverty and hunger due to injustice.

At the launch, we will be unveiling the full campaign with short presentations by National Council Chairperson Pat Kennedy, National Council representative for Southwest Ontario Julie Dwyer-Young, a presentation by Fr. Hagos on issues of hunger, which is the theme of this year’s campaign, the premiere of our campaign clip, closing remarks from Bishop Crosby and a screening of our new documentary On the Road to Food Sovereignty.

Make sure to follow us tomorrow on Facebook and Twitter @devpeace, where we will be posting photos and tweets of the event.

But make sure to stay tuned because this is just the beginning! Throughout Lent, we will have visitors from the Global South making presentations in Gatineau, Ottawa, Alberta, Montreal, Quebec City and the Maritimes, and other activities all across the country!

Let the sharing begin!
