The organization LABOR, which is one of our partners in Peru, focuses on initiatives related to gender, family, ecology and culture, as well as on ensuring that the activities of mining companies respect the rights of communities. For nearly 35 years, LABOR has actively contributed to improving the living conditions of the residents of Cerro de Pasco, a high-altitude mining commmunity.
In December 2015, LABOR will participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21), which will take place in Paris. Before the conference begins, it will present its recommendations for more responsible environmental policies to the Peruvian government, as a way to remind the government of the commitments it made to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during the COP20 in Lima last year.
LABOR members have asked the entire Development and Peace family to support them in their advocacy initiatives by sending them messages of solidarity on climate change that are addressed to the Peruvian delegation that will be participating in the COP21 negotiations. Messages must be sent before November 15.
You can write your short message (2 or 3 lines) in French, English or Spanish:
- Wishing the delegation good luck at COP21: Buena suerte en la reunión de la COP 21;
- Sending them your solidarity: Les mando mi solidaridad;
- Conveying your hope that the Peruvian government will adopt better environmental policies: Deseando que el gobierno Peruano adopte mejores políticas ambientales más responsables; and/or
- Sharing your hope that industrialized countries, will adopt ambitious and binding measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions: Deseamos que los países Industrializados adopten políticas ambiciosas y medidas serias para la reducción de emisiones de gases invernadero.
And check out our campaign prayer Let us Create a Climate of Change, which has been translated into Spanish!
You can share your messages of support directly on the Labor Facebook page.
Let’s all join forces for COP21!
