Long live Development and Peace!

It is with these words that Jean-Denis Lampron, President of the National Council of Development and Peace, kicked off the activities of the 50^th anniversary of Development and Peace last Saturday night, August 13^th. He reminded those present that the anniversary of Development and Peace, which was founded in 1967 by Canada’s Catholic bishops’ conference, is October 20^th. He also stressed the importance of the involvement of the organization’s members across Canada and its partners in the Global South, thanking them for contributing to the existence of Development and Peace and its ability to carry out its mission.

Some 400 guests attended a cocktail reception held at Artgang Gallery, on St-Hubert St. in Montreal. Members and partners of the organization, former and current employees, colleagues from sister organizations, and participants in the World Forum on Theology and Liberation and the World Social Forum mingled in a very festive atmosphere. All these fine people had gathered, some with emotion, to enjoy an exhibit of photographs and posters of various campaigns held over the past fifty years by Development and Peace. Fun activities were also planned such as a dress-up photo booth and dancing to the beat of world music. This successful event is very promising for the series of activities lined up for the coming year... Stay tuned!
